Privacy policy

Mareo is an iPhone app made by Zerebro LLC ("we"). This policy explains what information the app handles. In short: Mareo doesn't collect personal data. It has no account, advertising, analytics, tracking, or third-party SDKs, and it doesn't send your information to us or anyone else.

Information stored on your iPhone

To work, Mareo keeps a small amount of information on your device only:

  • Session history: when a sound session started and ended, and whether it finished, was stopped, or was interrupted.
  • Trip notes you choose to write: a date, an optional journey type, an optional rating of how the journey felt, and optional text.
  • Travel reminders you create: a date, a time, and an optional trip name, stored by iOS as local notifications.
  • Preferences: for example your language choice and whether you've seen the first-use guidance.

This information isn't sent to us. Mareo asks iOS to leave its history out of device backups. You can delete all session history and notes at any time in Trips › Delete all history, and you can delete reminders individually. Deleting the app removes everything.

Sharing your notes

If you choose to share or export your trip notes, Mareo prepares a text or CSV file and hands it to the iOS share sheet. Where it goes is your choice. Mareo doesn't keep a copy elsewhere.

Audio and headphones

Mareo plays a tone that it generates on your device. It doesn't use or record the microphone. To check that headphones are connected, it reads the type of audio output that's active (for example wired or Bluetooth headphones) while the app is open. That information is only held in memory and isn't stored or shared.

Notifications

Mareo asks for permission to send notifications only when you save your first travel reminder. Reminders are scheduled locally on your iPhone. Mareo doesn't use push notifications or any server.

Siri, Shortcuts, and Control Center

If you use Siri, Spotlight, Shortcuts, or the Control Center button, Apple handles those requests under Apple's privacy policy. Mareo only receives the instruction to open its setup screen.

Tips

Optional tips are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We don't receive your payment details or identity. Apple may share standard sales reports with us that don't identify you.

Links

Links to sources in the app, such as the original study, open in your browser only when you tap them. Those websites have their own privacy policies.

Health information

Mareo isn't a medical device and doesn't collect health data. It doesn't use Apple Health. Ratings in your trip notes are personal notes that stay on your device.

Children

Mareo isn't directed at children, and it doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.

This website

This website is hosted by GitHub Pages and doesn't use cookies, analytics, or tracking. GitHub may process technical information, such as IP addresses, to deliver and secure the site, as described in the GitHub Privacy Statement.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date above. If a change affects how your information is handled, we'll also say so in the app's release notes.
